People in wheelchair often face difficulty when it comes to choosing a destination for spending their holidays. This is because not all destinations offer facilities that allow ease of travelling for the handicapped. Here is a list of top five destinations that facilitate people in wheelchair and provide a highly enjoyable vacation.

1. New Zealand

New Zealand offers a complete holiday package for those that are looking for a relaxation spot that also offers accessibility by wheelchair. Several outdoor activities are offered within New Zealand such as National parks, mountain trails and coasts; all of which allow accessibility to those that are handicapped. The destination also offers an extensive variety of bars and restaurants that can allow one to enjoy the delicious food and wine offered.

2. Japan

Japan is an ideal country for those that are travelling in wheelchair. The sidewalks are equipped with brails that lead to elevators whereby a priority button is given for those that are travelling by the wheelchair.  Furthermore, public toilets are specifically designed for handicaps and this means travelling is quite easy when touring restaurants and malls. The culture of the country reflects warmth and tourist are welcomed with open arms and therefore those that travel by wheelchair are also offered moral and physical support.

3. England

Beaches within England are simply beautiful and many of them offer facilities for those traveling by wheelchair. Summerleaze Beach, Skegness Beach, Bournemouth Beach, Torre Abbey Sands and Gyllyngvase Beach are a few beaches located across England that allows the tourist to enjoy the extensive beauty whereas the hotels located nearby offer ground floor for handicapped tourist along with special toilets that are designed to provide ease of showering to the residents. The huts constructed on the beach are also wheelchair adaptable and hotels and beach both offer parking spaces for the handicapped.

4. Chicago

This city offers an extensive range of views to the tourist ranging from historical experiences to music and food. Majority of the tourist destinations allow for wheelchair accessibility such as museums which have a separate entrance for handicapped. Furthermore, the transportation system across the state is designed to provide easy of access to wheelchair travelers and this means that one can freely tour the city and the exciting adventures that it offers.

5. Van Damme State Park, Mendocino, Northern California

This rain forest provides a hiking trail known as “Discovery Trail” in Pygmy Forest that is accessible by wheel chair quite easily. The trail starts off with a parking lot designated for the handicapped and information boards during the trail offer guidance and provides directions. The trail also offers handicapped accessible rest rooms, picnic tables that can be used by those in wheel chair and wheelchair accessible visitor’s room. The park also offers wheelchairs on rent at the ranger’s station.
