It’s spring! If it isn’t yet, it will soon be time to open the windows and let in a nice breeze. It’s time to transition your home and your life from winter to spring. It’s time to start planning for the summer months.

Will you be having house guests this summer? Will you be hosting parties in your backyard? It’s time to take a look at your house and yard and see what needs to be done before the guests arrive.

Guest rooms are notorious for becoming dumping areas for everything that doesn’t have a home. If you walk into the room, you may be tempted to close the door and walk out. Don’t do it! You will regret it when it’s time for company!

Rather than jump in and try to clean everything at once, work on it a little at a time. Try to set aside time each day to work on your guest room or yard and get them cleaned up and company ready.

As you clean and organize, write down what other things need to be done to get company ready. If you’re working in the yard, consider if you need to buy some flowers to give the yard color or add some patio furniture. Do you have an old croquet game you can put outside to enjoy throughout the summer? Using it is better than letting it take up space in the garage.

When you’re working in the guest room, change the sheets on the bed so you won’t have to do that when you have overnight guests. If you find toiletries from hotel stays, put them in a basket and have them available for your guests to use. Small tubes of toothpaste, little containers of floss, and toothbrushes all make nice additions to a basket for guests.

As you work on getting guest-ready, get rid of those things you no longer use or need by donating them, having a garage sale, or throwing out the items.

If you start now, you’ll be ready for company before the first day of summer, and you’ll be relaxed and ready to enjoy the season!
